The state and religion in Angola. A brief analysis of relational dynamics

Abstract

Relations between the State and Religion in Angola are historically marked by highs and lows, from the beginnings of the national liberation struggle. In this article, we tried to identify and characterize these moments, having as reference the normative action of the State and the influence of religious institutions in Angolan society. It was evident that the space occupied by institutions in Angolan society depends more on societal representations and guidelines than on the normative action of the government. Therefore, these are relationships whose dynamics vary according to the specific historical moment, with moments of instability occurring in the absence of external threats.
