Abstract

The paper aims to understand Foucault's shift from a discourse of truth to a manifestation of truth, attributing a “positive and differentiated” content, as he states in the course On the Government of the Living, to the terms power and knowledge. To this end, we will analyze, initially from the courses Security, Territory and Population and The Birth of Biopolitics, the object and the research method defined by Foucault for the study of government practices from the 18th century, as well as the articulation between regime for real and genealogical research. Next, we will see, in the course On the Government of the Living, how the regime of truth rebuilds itself significantly from a new perspective of analysis of the power-knowledge relationship, for which Foucault now considers the manifestation of truth. This analysis is important because it allows us to understand the passage from Foucault's studies of government practices to the direction of man's conduct.
