The embodiment of the democratic principle in the Angolan constitution

Abstract

The present communication alludes to one of the structuring principles of the contemporary state which is in this case the principle of the democratic state. Today, organs of political power are no longer admitted without the legitimacy of the people, the conquest of power can no longer be justified by the divine or hereditary order, but by the democratic order. As a method uses bibliographic review and interpretation, the paper seeks to demonstrate that suffrage is not the only manifestation of democracy even though it has a prominent place in the realization of this principle. The aim is to reflect on the perspective of formal representation and material representation of the democratic principle in the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, in this perspective the following aspects are gauged: The referendum, the popular initiative the initiatives of the citizens and the direct actions on the other hand analyses within the Constitution the relation between the democratic principle and Right of suffrage, the democratic principle and electoral system; and the democratic principle and party system.
