Abstract

This article aims to investigate the conceptual evolution, main theoretical models, trends, and gaps in the literature on media ownership and organisational resilience from 1970 to 2024, based on a systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. Searches were conducted in the Web of Science, Scopus and Science@Direct databases using the terms “media ownership”, “resilient media companies”, “digital content strategies” and “organisational resilience”. The results show that the field of study has received considerable attention from researchers over the last two decades, although there were some very relevant studies between 1990 and 2010. This article contributes to the literature by presenting a holistic view of the evolutionary process of media ownership and organisational resilience over the last 54 years, with the aim of reinforcing its role in the current context, characterised by a constant increase in the competitiveness of the media industry.
